Calling All Foodies: Join the Filipino Cuisine Competitions in Texas and Win Big!

Are you a fan of Filipino food? Do you have a special recipe for adobo, lumpia, Filipino BBQ, or ube dessert that you'd like to share with the world? Then mark your calendars for the Adobo Throwdown Cooking Competition and Food Expo 2.0, taking place in Schertz, Texas on August 5th and 6th, 2023.

This event is the only one of its kind in Texas, and it's open to amateur cooks who want to showcase their skills in making these iconic Filipino dishes. There are four competitions to choose from: the Amateur Adobo Cooking Competition, the Ube Dessert Competition, the Lumpia Competition, and the Filipino BBQ Competition.

To enter any of these competitions, simply register at the corresponding link on the Adobo Throwdown website (https://www.adobothrowdown.com/). The registration fee is $20 per entry, and the deadline is May 30th, 2023. The registration fee includes a weekend pass to the Adobo Throwdown Cooking Competition and Food Expo 2.0, so you can check out all the other amazing Filipino food on display. Contestants can also purchase additional weekend passes for friends and family at a 20% discount.

But let's talk about the competitions themselves, and what makes each one special.

Amateur Adobo Cooking Competition

Adobo is perhaps the most well-known Filipino dish, and for good reason: it's delicious! Adobo is a tangy, savory stew made with meat (usually chicken or pork), vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, and other seasonings. Everyone has their own take on adobo, so this is your chance to show off your recipe and win some prizes.

Ube Dessert Competition

Ube (pronounced oo-beh) is a purple yam that's a staple in Filipino desserts. It's used to make everything from cakes to ice cream to pudding, and it's become a trendy ingredient in the foodie world. If you have a killer recipe for an ube dessert, now's your chance to shine.

Lumpia Competition

Lumpia is a Filipino spring roll that's usually filled with a mixture of meat, vegetables, and sometimes noodles. It's a classic Filipino appetizer that's perfect for any occasion. If you're a master at rolling lumpia, this competition is for you.

Filipino BBQ Competition

Filipino BBQ is a sweet and savory grilled meat dish that's marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, garlic, sugar, and other seasonings. It's a staple at Filipino parties and gatherings, and it's always a crowd-pleaser. If you have a killer recipe for Filipino BBQ, this is your chance to show it off.

Prizes

So what can you win if you enter one of these competitions? The prizes are as follows:

  • 1st place - $250 + trophy

  • 2nd place - $150 + trophy

  • 3rd place - $75 + trophy

But even if you don't win, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you've shared your love of Filipino food with others, and you'll have a chance to meet other like-minded foodies.
