About Sheriff Javier Salazar
Sheriff Salazar was sworn into office on January 1, 2017, bringing with him over two decades of experience in law enforcement from his time with the San Antonio Police Department. Throughout his career, Sheriff Salazar has been a trailblazer in law enforcement, creating several specialized units within the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, including:
Adult Detention Mental Health Unit
Contraband Abatement Team
Applicant Processing Unit
Public Integrity Unit
Mounted Patrol
Special Victims Unit
Sheriff’s Community Oriented Response and Education (SCORE) Unit
His leadership has also seen the introduction of vital community programs such as Active Shooter Training, the Gold Badge Business Certification, the Senior Fraud Program, and the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy. These initiatives highlight his unwavering commitment to enhancing community engagement and safety.
