Featured Entertainer - Little Val Jazz Duo

Valerie Campbell was born in Kingsville, TX, and raised in the small town of Riviera, TX. She always yearned to sing for an audience, but was restricted by her religion. At age 26, she finally broke free and attended A&M Kingsville, studying voice under the direction of the late Robert Scott. During college (1994-2001) she became a freelance vocalist for different jazz and Tejano bands in South Texas. Upon graduation, she quickly made haste to San Antonio and soon joined the corporate band The Pictures from Austin, TX and did the wedding circuit until 2010. In 2006, on a whim, Valerie auditioned for Showtime at the Apollo in New York City and was accepted to compete. She did not win, but was grateful to have completed her song without having to meet the infamous sandman. In 2007 she released her Christmas CD, "Christmas is Here!" Valerie has also sung in various gospel choirs in San Antonio, most notably the MLK Choir and True Vision Church Choir. She participated in City Wide Mass Choir Revival and led 2 songs. In 2016, she married her husband Julius Campbell, and they soon released their jointly written wedding song, "Another Lifetime", as a wedding highlight music video. In 2017, Valerie received honorable mention for her original song, "Blessed" in a national songwriting contest called "Posi Fest". In 2018, Valerie produced and co-starred in a Teena Marie Tribute Show at the Carver Jo Long Theater in San Antonio. In 2019, Valerie famously lost her voice for six days, and became a born-again Christian. Just like being born the first time, she considers it the most miraculous and traumatic experience of her life, and to this day, she continues to be in awe of the supernatural miracle of salvation. Valerie has also carved a niche for herself in the senior independent and assisted living/memory care circuit, and she regards singing for seniors a deeply satisfying ministry. During the pandemic, Valerie joined forces with pianist Mark Little, and formed a band, the Little Val Jazz Duo, which continues to gig in the San Antonio area. She now lives a quiet life with her husband, Julius Campbell, and their son, Austin Campbell.

Little Val Jazz Duo will be performing at the Adobo Throwdown Cooking Competition and Food Expo on October 23, 2022, at the Schertz Civic Center 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, TX 78154
