Adobo Cooking Competition - Amateur Division

Attention all home cooks! Enter your version of the Philippines’ unofficial national dish - adobo. This is an open competition and you can use any protein you want. Any home cook can enter the only adobo cooking competition in Central Texas. Complete contest rules are shown below.

Reasons to enter

  1. Honor - You have been raving about your family’s adobo recipe for years. It’s time to share your family’s creation with others.

  2. Personal development - Competition is a great way to enhance your cooking skills, build confidence and promote creativity

  3. Help a charitable cause - The Adobo cooking competition is part of the Adobo Throwdown Cooking Competition and Food Expo, with all of the proceeds going to the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce - Central Texas Region Humanitarian Projects

  4. Help promote Filipino food - Your entry will be promoted heavily on all of our social media channels to bring awareness of Filipino cuisine to others

  5. Try something new - Never made adobo before? No problem! There are a lot of YouTube videos and Amazon cookbooks to guide you. And remember - you don’t have to be Filipino to enter!

  6. Win - Bragging rights are forever. Check out the cash prizes below -

Prizes:

1st place - $250 + trophy

2nd place - $150 + trophy

3rd place - $75 + trophy

How to Register and Prepare:

  1. Register Early: Secure your spot here! Registration requires a $20 fee, which includes a 2-day pass to the event. Note: Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

  2. Save on Extra Tickets: Grab additional tickets for your cheer squad at a 20% discount.

  3. Know Your Schedule: We'll send you your specific turn-in time one week before the event. Stay tuned!

Preparing Your Winning Adobo Dish:

  1. Cook Off-Site: Get your adobo ready at home or your preferred kitchen.

  2. Serving Size: Prepare at least twelve 3-ounce servings to share your dish's rich flavor. Feel free to bring more to impress!

  3. Pack It Right: Use a disposable container like a 9x13 aluminum pan or an 8-inch round container with a lid. Remember, containers won’t be returned.

Day of the Competition:

  1. Turn-In Time: Drop off your dish at the
    Schertz Civic Center, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, TX on August 10, 2024, between 10:15 AM and 12:00 PM.
    Be punctual—arrive no more than 5 minutes before or after your assigned time!

  2. Follow the Signs: Look for signs directing you to Competitor Registration upon arrival.

  3. Check-In and Numbering: Our team will check you in and attach a ticket number to your entry for the judges.

  4. We would love to take a picture of you and your entry for social media, but this is optional and you can decline.

Judging

  1. All entries will be blind-judged by a selected panel

  2. Judging will be based on 3 criteria

    • Taste - 50%

    • Appearance- 25%

    • Originality - 25%

Announcement and Coverage:

  1. Awards Ceremony: Winners will be announced at 12:30 PM on August 10, 2024. Join us for the excitement!

  2. Live Updates: Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for real-time photos and updates.

  3. Results: Full contest results will be posted on August 11, 2024.
